Realization of the Moment

Of all the places one could birth those ah-ha moments, I find that in my office restroom. It's quiet and compact and just happens to be that unique retreat from the workday whirlwind.

Two days ago, I had, what I like to call, a moment of realization (in my office restroom):

Love is a beautiful thing. For those of us that have been in love, you know it has the potential to be this all-consuming force that skyrockets to the top of our priority list. We think about them and dream about them. We plan our weddings and name our children. (Come on, ladies. You know you did.)

And yes, love is indeed a many splendored thing, so let's embrace it all.

Romantic love isn't everything. Sure, it's wonderful and gives you that on-cloud-9 feeling, but there are other types of love to be thankful for like the love of a mother, the love of a friend, God's love. There are other things to desire and hunger for. There are other interests and people and causes that are worthy of our passion and commitment.

So for those of us who are longing for love, let's take a moment to reflect on the love that's present in our lives, for the things that inspire and enrich us and be grateful for the powers and the people who so kindly bestow it.

And for all those seeking, romantic love will come when it's meant to come so rest assured and enjoy the ride.

"General opinion's starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed, but I don't see that. It seems to me that love is everywhere. Often it's not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it's always there – fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends. When the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as I know none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge – they were all messages of love. If you look for it, I've got a sneaky feeling you'll find that love actually is all around."
